ChargeUK Strengthens EV Network with Addition of Virta, Blink Charging, and Electroverse

ChargeUK, the UK’s leading EV charging industry group, has expanded its membership, welcoming Blink Charging as a Full Member alongside Gireve, Octopus Energy’s Electroverse, and Virta as Industry Associate Members. This collaboration signals a strengthened effort to build a robust, reliable, and consumer-friendly EV charging network across the UK.

The EV charging sector is growing unprecedentedly, and ChargeUK’s members have pledged to invest over £6 billion by 2030. Their goal is ambitious: to develop world-class charging infrastructure, create jobs, and bolster economic growth, all while supporting the UK’s transition to electric vehicles.

Vicky Read, CEO of ChargeUK, praised the sector’s progress:

“The UK’s charging sector has grown rapidly in the last decade, and today, it plays a major role in the UK’s green economy. ChargeUK is mirroring that growth, demonstrating the industry’s desire to come together to accelerate the rollout.

We look forward to having Blink Charging, Gireve, Octopus Electroverse, and Virta's expertise and experience in our organisation.

These new members will help ChargeUK to continue the rollout at a record pace, ensuring deployment ramps up in locations that have been hampered by delays and making sure the UK has a thriving EV market so that investment in infrastructure continues at scale.”

Strengths of New Members

Each of the new members brings distinct expertise to the table:

  • Blink Charging: Known for its innovative and dependable EV charging solutions.

  • Gireve: A champion of interoperability, ensuring seamless integration across charging systems.

  • Octopus Electroverse: The UK’s largest consumer charging platform, simplifying the EV experience.

  • Virta: A leader in charging management systems, enhancing user convenience and accessibility.

Despite rapid progress, charging anxiety remains a significant hurdle to EV adoption. Concerns about the availability and reliability of chargers deter many from making the switch. ChargeUK is committed to addressing these barriers by uniting industry leaders under a shared mission to eliminate charging anxiety and ensure equitable access for all drivers.

Alex Calnan, Managing Director of Blink Charging UK & Ireland, commented:

“Blink Charging is proud to be a member of ChargeUK, uniting with other industry leaders to proactively accelerate the growth of the EV charging infrastructure for drivers across the UK.

As a charge point operator, this collaboration further strengthens our commitment to delivering reliable, accessible, and innovative charging solutions, supporting the nation’s transition to a cleaner, greener future.”

As the UK ramps up efforts to meet its Zero-Emission Vehicle (ZEV) Mandate, ChargeUK is pivotal in scaling the charging infrastructure to match demand. With record numbers of EV chargers installed and collaborative efforts at the forefront, the group is paving the way for a seamless and sustainable EV transition.
