E.ON Acquires Eco2Solar to Make Renewable Energy More Accessible

Energy powerhouse E.ON UK has taken a decisive step in expanding its renewable energy footprint, completing the full acquisition of Eco2Solar, one of the UK’s largest residential solar installers. This strategic move is set to supercharge E.ON’s presence in the new-build housing sector, reinforcing its commitment to scaling solar energy adoption at a pivotal time for the industry.

Eco2Solar, headquartered in the Midlands and Scotland, has carved out a dominant position in the UK’s solar market. It specialises in new-build homes and apartment complexes. Since its inception, the company has been at the forefront of equipping residential properties with clean energy solutions, a mission that now gains even more significant momentum under E.ON’s full ownership.

E.ON UK first secured a 49% stake in Eco2Solar in December 2020, recognising the firm’s potential to reshape the solar installation landscape. With this complete takeover, E.ON aims to accelerate growth, drive down CO2 emissions in the housing sector, and play a key role in the UK’s ambitious target to construct 1.5 million new homes while transitioning to a cleaner energy grid by 2030.

The impact of Eco2Solar’s work is already tangible. The company has installed solar panels on over 50,000 homes, generating an impressive 85 million kilowatt-hours of green electricity—enough to brew more than 2.7 billion cups of tea annually. While that statistic adds a relatable touch, the broader implications are clear: substantial reductions in carbon emissions, lower energy costs for homeowners, and a crucial step toward a more sustainable UK housing market.

Chris Norbury, chief executive of E.ON UK, said: "This is another important, strategic step towards accelerating our growth in the new-build market while connecting residential customers to flexible energy solutions that help lower their bills and continuing to lead the UK’s transition to clean energy.

"Having acquired a 49 per cent stake in Eco2Solar five years ago, we have been helping developers deliver renewable energy solutions to reduce carbon emissions, with the aim of making solar energy flexible and affordable for the many, not the few."

As the UK races toward net-zero carbon goals, investments like these are more than corporate expansions—they’re catalysts for systemic change. By bringing Eco2Solar under its wing, E.ON UK strengthens its position as a renewable energy leader, ensuring that solar power becomes a default, not a luxury, in the homes of tomorrow.

This acquisition isn’t just about business growth. It’s about reshaping the energy landscape, one rooftop at a time.

Paul Hutchens, chief executive of Eco2Solar, said: "My vision has always been to make solar standard and to change the way that we think about how we get our energy in this country.

"E.ON UK and Eco2Solar have the opportunity and resources to create new models that will make solar and other sustainable technologies available to everyone."
