Halifax has announced a new partnership with Octopus Energy and Effective Home to provide significant cashback incentives for its mortgage customers who undertake home energy efficiency upgrades. Eligible Halifax mortgage holders can receive up to £2,000 in cashback for installing solar panels, air source heat pumps, and other energy-efficient systems.
The initiative, named the Halifax Green Living Reward, offers an array of attractive incentives. Mortgage customers with a Halifax current account can benefit from £2,000 cashback for heat pump installations or up to £1,000 for solar panels or battery storage systems.
According to Halifax's mortgage director Andrew Assam, the cashback offer, combined with various government grant schemes, could potentially make replacing an old gas boiler cost-free. Assam emphasized that the integration of these incentives makes such upgrades more affordable and appealing to homeowners seeking to enhance their energy efficiency.
"We are committed to helping our customers live in warmer, more energy-efficient homes on the journey to net zero," he added. Improving the way older homes are heated, powered, and insulated is critical. Green Living Reward offers an incentive to anyone who wants to make their home more energy efficient but is concerned about the cost."
In collaboration with solar panel provider Effective Home, Halifax customers can enjoy an additional £500 discount on quotes for solar panel packages, batteries, or installation services. This enticing offer further enhances the appeal of the Halifax Green Living Reward.
Furthermore, partnering with Octopus Energy brings even more benefits. Customers opting to install air source heat pumps will receive a £100 credit towards their energy bills post-installation, providing immediate financial relief.
Halifax also offers £500 cashback on various home improvements, including biomass pellet boilers, solar thermal heating, A-rated double or triple glazing, cavity wall insulation, and roof insulation. These incentives are part of a comprehensive effort to promote energy efficiency among homeowners.
The Green Living Reward is accessible to any mortgage customer with a Halifax current account who is either taking out new lending or securing a new deal. The initiative encourages homeowners to enhance their energy efficiency within the next 12 months, leveraging savings, government grants, additional borrowing, or a combination of these funding sources.
Additionally, Halifax will assist customers through its government grant finder service, which aims to reduce the costs associated with home insulation improvements.
In related developments, a new independent UK think tank, Ambient, has been launched this week. The organization is dedicated to accelerating the adoption of electrified heat solutions by influencing policy—ambient aims to support policymakers and industry by providing comprehensive data on the electrified heat transition.
The think tank's founding members include notable figures such as politician Baroness Worthington and Dr. Jan Rosenow, a clean heating expert and academic who serves as the program director at the Regulatory Assistance Project (RAP).
"The time is now to scale world-leading, clean home heating for Britain," said Ambient's founder and chair, Irene Omaswa.
"Transformational policy is key to this, and we aim to support the Government in the policy process by collating data and delivering unique insights into the transition.
"As an independent not-for-profit organisation we want to collaborate with the whole sector and for the data we collate to benefit the market as a whole. By doing this, we want to contribute to creating an enabling environment for the UK to become a clean energy superpower with lower energy bills for families and businesses."
