Trewithen Dairy has introduced a new product, Regen Milk, showcasing its dedication to sustainable and regenerative farming practices. This latest offering is set to hit Tesco shelves across the country on 16 October, available in both one-litre (£1.55) and two-litre (£2.40) formats of semi-skimmed milk.
Regen Milk represents more than just a product—it's a step toward the future of dairy farming. The milk is sourced exclusively from farms that practice regenerative agriculture, a method focused on revitalizing soil health, promoting biodiversity, and capturing carbon. With this initiative, Trewithen Dairy is boldly stating how dairy can contribute to a more sustainable and environmentally friendly food system.
"At Trewithen, we believe that producing delicious dairy products goes hand in hand with caring for the environment," said Francis Clarke, chief procurement officer at Trewithen Dairy. "Regen Milk is the result of years of collaboration with our dedicated farming partners.
"By adopting regenerative practices, we're not just improving the quality of our milk but also making a meaningful contribution back to the land," he added.
This launch marks Trewithen Dairy's second major product rollout within six months, following the introduction of their barista dairy milk in May. The company's commitment to innovation is evident, and it's backed by a strong emphasis on ethical practices.
Farmers involved in producing Regen Milk receive an additional 5p per litre compared to conventional milk, demonstrating Trewithen Dairy's dedication to supporting fair and sustainable farming. This premium payment helps farmers transition to regenerative farming methods, ensuring the long-term viability of their operations and contributing to a stronger, more resilient agricultural community.
What started as a small initiative with just two farms adopting regenerative practices has grown to encompass six farms, enabling Trewithen to meet increasing consumer demand. These farmers rotate their free-grazing dairy cows every five days, providing access to fresh pasture, cultivating diverse plant species, and eliminating artificial fertilizers by incorporating natural solutions like clover planting. These regenerative techniques improve soil health and contribute to lowering carbon emissions.
“Regen Milk is just the beginning of a larger shift towards more sustainable dairy farming in the UK. We’re excited to bring this product to consumers and invite them to join us on this journey of positive change,” added Clarke.
In June, Trewithen was acquired by the German dairy giant Ehrmann, which has set its sights on expanding into the UK market. Ehrmann has committed £20 million to boost Trewithen's processing capacity and capabilities at its Glynn Valley facility in Cornwall, positioning the company for even more tremendous growth in the future.
